In the meantime here are some extracts from the book

IMAGINE ME - A YOUNG JOHN B.!

published from our recent creative writing programme and launched at Writers' Week 2004.

The Little Green Man
Little man, on a exit sign,
Green and white : strange design.
Running, running,
Running where?
Running, running,
Going nowhere.

"Set me free!"
He cries and shouts.
The sign gets broken,
Small man jumps out.
"Where is he?"
Cries everyone.
Running away,
Little man has won.

Christina Toolan, Age 11

John B. Keane
Brian,
Bobby,
Bernard,
Bill.
All of these names are run of the mill!

Bertha?
Nah!
Beatrice?
Nope!
With these girls names we haven't a hope!

An author needs a middle name that isn't silly at sight.
Why, what about Brendan?
Hmm…
A name of such might!

The women on the street whisper tales with a fright
That John Brendan Keane had died in the night!

Why, can't it be true?
It just isn't right!

A man of such class!
A man that could write!

Now the story he was telling has come to an end.
Of a man that told stories that weren't at all boring,
Of a man that was famous and wrote stories as well.

But no! His story hasn't ended at all!
It's still playing out in heaven,
So far above us all!

Orla Moriarty, Age 12

Roses
Roses are red, roses are neat
Roses are wonderful for a treat.
Roses are bright, like the pure sunlight.
Roses are a joy, that will bring delight.

Roses are red, yellow, pink or white,
Together they make quite a sight.
Roses are a special gift,
which will give the heart a loving lift.
Roses have their own sweet smell,
Just like the ocean you hear from a shell.

The beauty of Roses carry a trick,
They can give you quite a nasty prick.
With thorns wild on the stem,
Isn't it great we receive them from men.
Courtney O'Neill, Age 8
