7.30 pm: TALES FROM THE KINGDOM
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Listowel Castle, we present an evening of storytelling, poetry, music and song as part of Listowel International Storytelling & Folklore Festival 2020. Celebrate the best of local storytellers, poets, musicians and singers in the Kingdom’s cultural capital.
This event is part of our Culture Night celebrations.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19TH
STORY MAKING WORKSHOP
10 am to 1 pm
Directed by storyteller Maria Gillen, the theme of this Story Making Workshop is How stories can encapsulate resilience. Using the six-part story mechanism Maria will show participants how to make use of past resiliencies, how we can connect our current resiliences in this time of Covid, and how we can make an archive of all of this for the future.
2 pm: MEET OUR YOUNG TELLERS
Hosted by local storytelling legend Frances Kennedy, this event showcases the future generation of storytellers from Kerry and beyond.
8 pm: FROM LISTOWEL TO NEWFOUNDLAND
We are delighted to partner with St. John’s Storytelling Festival in Newfoundland to bring you a special concert featuring some of the finest storytellers from both sides of the Atlantic.
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 20TH
10 am: MEET OUR FEATURED TELLER
Our featured teller Maria Gillen will tell tales of resilience that she has co-created, created, and collected. The session will also make use of what was learned at the Story Making Workshop as examples to participants on how to create a story.
12 noon: CHILDREN’S STORYTIME
Storytellers Godfrey Coppinger & Maria Gillen will enthrall children with stories of myth and enchantment.
Suitable for children aged 5 years and over.
3 to 6 pm: HEALING HOUR SESSION
Inspired by the famous ‘Healing Hour’ in John B. Keane’s Bar during Listowel Writers’ Week, Maria Gillen will act as Bean an Tí for an afternoon of storytelling, music and song featuring the best of North Kerry storytellers and artists.
VIRTUAL TOUR OF KERRY WRITERS’ MUSEUM
Abbeyfeale Drama Group present a selection of stories, songs and drama by the great North Kerry writers featured in our Museum including John B. Keane, Bryan MacMahon and Maurice Walsh.
