Celebrating John B Keane at 90

Remembering John B. Keane at 90 is a special event to mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of Listowel writer John B. Keane, presented by Seanchaí – Kerry Writers’ Museum.  A variety of events will take place Thursday July 19th to Saturday July 21st at the Museum and throughout Listowel.


Thursday July 19th

10 pm – Pub Theatre at John B. Keane’s Bar – Join host Billy Keane for an evening of music, song and story.

Friday July 20th

11 am & 2 pm – Living Literature tour of Kerry Writers’ Museum: Tickets – €8

4pm – Rivers of Words: Dr. John B. Keane – A screening of the acclaimed documentary produced by the North Kerry Literary Trust in association with RTE.  Introduced by producer Jimmy Deenihan.    Admission Free

8 pm – Keynote Address by Irish Times columnist & theatre critic Fintan O’Toole: Tickets – €15

Saturday July 21st

9.30 am – From the Cradle to the Grave –  A literary walk through Listowel visiting locations connected with the great playwright, led by local historian Vincent Carmody.  Admission Free

2.30 pm – Photographic Exhibition: An exhibition of photographs and memorabilia of John B. Keane from the Museum’s collection.

3.30 pm – Remembering John B. Keane: Friends, family and colleagues remember his life and works in an afternoon of stories, readings & performances. Speakers include John (Sean) Keane, Anne Keane, David Browne and Brian Devaney.  MC – Gabriel Fitzmaurice.  Music by Mick McConnell.   Admission Free

8 pm – Big Maggie at St. John’s Theatre: Corofin Drama Society perform their award winning production of one of John B. Keane’s most famous and popular plays.  Tickets – €15
